Chickens of Earth

Chickens apart from those of Neith: an example of the degenerative effects of high-concentration cheek exposure on the chicken anatomy, which has left them almost without intellect.

The Chickens of Earth are not the Chickens of Neith, and the difference is a sorry one. They show the degenerative effects that high concentration cheek exposure has on the chicken anatomy (see Cheeks), and the exposure has taken nearly all of their intellect with it. Earth is a planet, and cheeks, for reasons no one understands, are far more prevalent on planets than on moons; the Chickens who settled there could hardly have chosen worse.

William Herschel, who counted the people of Neith as his own, claimed the Chickens of Earth in another sense:

“The people of Neith are my people, and the Chickens of Earth are my dominion.”

— William Herschel
