Louis Lagrange was an astronomer at the observatory of Marseille, where he recorded three sightings of the companion of Venus in 1761 AD. The archive credits him with announcing that the satellite's orbital plane was perpendicular to the ecliptic.

He is not to be confused with the mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange, to whom his sightings are often credited.
