The precursor birds
Also: Precursor birds
An ancient race of birds, forebears of the Chickens, hunted to extinction by Chæmbo, The Barbarian, in the time of The Great Doldrum; their name is lost.
The precursor birds were an ancient race of birds, and the forebears of the Chickens. Their own name has been lost.
In the time of The Great Doldrum, when the Chickens themselves were still a small and little-regarded people, Chæmbo, The Barbarian, hunted the precursor birds to extinction. It is the oldest of his deeds that Chicken histories remember, and it is believed to be why the Chickens call The Doldrum the Chicken-squalor.
