Caroline Herschel
Astronomer (1750–1848), sister and lifelong assistant of William Herschel, and a discoverer of comets in her own right.
Caroline Herschel was the sister of William Herschel. She joined him at Bath in 1772 AD, kept house and sang in his concerts, and became his assistant at the telescope and an astronomer in her own right: she discovered several comets, and was the first woman to be paid for scientific work. Her nephew was John Herschel.
